2007 GED Graduation article:

  

The Adult Learning Center of Lanier Technical College in Dawsonville held its GED graduation ceremony on May 21st at Brenau University in Gainesville.  The program combined graduates from Dawson, Hall, and Forsyth counties who had received their GED (General Educational Development) diplomas during the past year.  The Adult Learning Center in Dawson county sent out 100 invitations to those who had passed.

The keynote speaker was Gregg Golson, past president of the Dawson county Literacy Council.  Several organizations in Dawson county awarded scholarships to deserving students who intend to further their education.  Helen Taylor presented the Women’s Club Helen Taylor Scholarship to Amber Peacock.  Ron Bennetti presented the Lion’s Club Morris Taylor Scholarship to Jamie Lamanac.  Sue Tennant, CLCP Director, presented the READ David Michael Brown Memorial Scholarship to Brandy Queen.  Suzanne Bailey-Long also presented a David Michael Brown Memorial Scholarship to Angela Dean.  And Sandra Sears received the Kilough Church by the Lake Scholarship.

A reception hosted and coordinated by the Dawson County Women’s Club followed the ceremony.

Anyone 16 or older who is interested in obtaining his GED should contact the Adult Learning Center at  706/265-1690 or stop by 223 Allen Street, Monday through Thursday from 8 am to 8 pm or Friday 8 am to 2 pm.  Volunteers are always needed to assist students who need help improving their math, English language, or reading skills.  With just 2 hours of your time each week, you can help someone achieve a better and brighter future.
